The scientific name of the Amano shrimp is Caridina japonica. It is also known as the Japanese Marsh Shrimp. It is called Amano shrimp due to the fact that Mr.Amano ( the founder of ADA) introduce this shrimp to the aquarium world to control algae. In Hong Kong it is named "Pearl shrimp" by some shop owners. The problem is many shop owners don't have enough knowlege in the animal they are selling ( sorry if I offend anyone here) and they can name the animal by themselves! I found at least two different type of "Pearl shrimp" in the fish street. One of them is the real Amano shrimp and the other I'm not so sure. The shrimp in the picture is the true Amano shrimp. Maybe the shrimp you have are baby Amano shrimp.
