Hello.

The DIY lighting was a wooden canopy with 3 X 18W T8 6500K, with reflectors. I then changed to a Lifetech fixture that you can see in the two last photos and in this updated photo. It has 2 X 36W PC 6500K/10000K.

JMS not exactly in Lisboa but 30 minutes from it, in Cascais, right next to the sea. You should visit it next time you come to Portugal. Someday I will visit Hong Kong, when I graduate.

keisuke, Raymond and 15, I have some updates for you. Here you are.Pogostemon helferi is still in the layout, only more hidden. Soon it will show herself to you.

Andre, I like your layout a lot, simple and natural, and offer a lot of potential.

Some suggestion for your consideration.

Wood: the shape of the drift wood is on the "thick" side, it offer good texture, but kind of "heavy" for the size of your tank

Spacing: the placement of the driftwood created a natural "path" in-between, this offer some sense of spacing and in time, will increase the layering, I just wander whether it will work if we keep the Glossostigma elatinoides away from the middle foreground, leave a trianglar space as if a path leading into the space between the two set of drift wood, we can use some small stone to build a "fence" right underneath the surface of substract.

These comment only reflected my personal preference, probably from a slightly different perspective.

Andy, your suggestions are welcome and are as valid as mine. The first one is too late to resolve but, the second one has attracted my attention. My intention is to mixe glossostigma with pogostemon helferi. Here´s what I have in mind:



I want that, with time, pogostemon helferi fills the path entirely, giving the triangular form that you mentioned, as Glossostigma will be over run by it. With some trimming, I think I can accomplish that. If not, the use of stones will be the solution. Thank you for comments. Great help as usual.

Interesting indeed, but pogostemon helferi is quite demanding and if you put them too close to the shade of the drift wood, wouldn't it affect their growth?

Using Glossostigma as defactual "ground" level of your layout, what do you think the idea "level" of this triangular area should be? higher then the level created by Glossostigma? or low then the level of Glossostigma?

Yes, it will. I already noticed some retarded growth, because stem plants are shadowing pogostemon. Tomorrow I´ll trim the stems so pogostemon can have more light.

As to the traingular shape, I hope that, when Pogostemon invades the path, this plant will be higher than glossostigma, giving the visual effect of depth and creating an imaginary line that will limit the triangular shape of glossostigma. I just have to give a little help with some trimming skill ( wich i´m still learning). One thing is sure: Pogostemon will always be higher than Glossostigma and Glossostigma will always be higher as it grows towards the back of the tank ( because of the substracte sloap).
