It seems to me that there are very few discussion threads are about quarantine tank in this forum.

Quarantine Tanks have three main benefits.

1. it prevents desease from your new fishes to the main tank.
2. it acts as a hospital tank that you can apply medicine to the ill fishes directly instead of applying medicine to the main tank.
3. it helps the new fishes to adapt the environment changes. Otherwise, they may not be able to compete with the old fishes in main tank

I used to use a 12inches for the purpose. Half water from the main tank, half new water. A small heater and a sponge filter.

I know that the main problem is space. However,
it only costs you a small tank and simple filters but help you save potentially a lot of money.

咸水魚就好多人都有Q-tank

Because 咸水魚 expensive?

I believe it is worth for fresh water tank as well. Expecially for those large and fully planted tank.

Q-tank is also important for angel fishes and discus. They easily get hidden deseases that can kill the whole tank in short time.

主要原因係
1.咸水魚普遍較貴
2.器材可能已買了很多$,多一個Q-tank唔多
3.咸水魚起缸一般最少用2呎,多一個Q-tank唔多
4.淡水魚大部分好粗生,比較少人用Q-tank

小弟有用 Q-tank，其實醫魚基本上一定要隔離，新魚小弟就未必會隔離，睇情況而定

完全同意Alder對Q-tank的觀點.我養了水族多年,一直都有用Q-tank來檢疫新魚及醫治病魚.雖然需要多一點點空間,器材;但免除了全缸覆沒的危險,效果亦好,藥量又容易控制.

由這個主題,引發起本人有一點感想:
我覺得現今有些同好比較欠缺耐性,什麼也要快,要結果但忽略過程.而且對生命的價值觀也奇怪-貴魚,蝦,草就珍而重之,用最好的設備.廉價的或捉來的就用來開缸試水,牠們的生死只是視為一個水質的指標.其實開一個Q-tank,用一些試劑,又有多麻煩?要花多多少金錢呢?希望各真正喜歡水族的同好真心尊重生命,不要讓牠們作可避免而非必要的犧牲.

我而家養咸水魚都冇Q-TANK，一來地方有限，二來財力有限，三來而家好多咸水魚已經好平(當然唔係講大條既仙同蝶啦)。同埋而家好難叫人買條魚返黎放入Q缸一兩個月做檢疫，我見有D新手開缸幾日已經放珊瑚放葵。

The above thread stimulate me to write this thread. I am not feeling good after reading the above thread.

袋裝魚 is not just another selling method. Hanging fish in plastic bags in open air actually harm the fishes very much such as shaking, dramatic changes in tempature, chemical shock, etc.

However, it seems that most people only concerns the average price per survive fish after casulty in both threads.

How should we value those fishes? Life? Money?

On the other hand, I feel really sorry when people catching fishes or other animals or collecting plants from wildlife just for fun. Is it really free of charge? What is the actual price for this?

I really admire most aquarium lovers in USA, Germany and Japan. They respect every little lifes even for those really cheap fishes.

I think sea water tank tends to involve Q tank because sea water acquarium frequently involve 野生魚, so it is important to keep them isolated for a much longer time before putting it into the main tank.

I have 2 Q tank, 25L and 20L, normally fish I bought from Fish Street will be put into one of the Q tank for 3 days to 1 week before move into the main tank. In one occasion, because I keep buying small amount of new fishes, so I have new fishes going into Q tank every 2-3 days, but I won't transfer fish from Q tank to main tank unless the tank is completely stable for 3-7 days, depends on what kind of fishes are involved, so in that special case, I have fishes stay in Q tank for 2 weeks before moving into the main tank.

Glad to find someone share same position on 袋裝魚, but like environment protection, this is a no-winning batter
