在以上討論區看到有人不用螯合而直接用FeSo4 作為 diy 鐵肥，覺得有點道理。商品鐵肥，由制造到送往門市銷售，時間頗長，所以要用螯合劑延長其變成三價鐵的時間，自己diy 可以即煮即食，是否有需要再用螯合劑呢？

Actually i remember reading b4 that organic acid like humic acid can chelate Fe2+ as well. And humic acid is present in every tank after u keep fish and plant + soil for a while.

Also, lack of oxygen(in the soil) leads to an anaerobic condition and results in the build up of reduced species, ie, Fe2+. So put nail with rust (Fe2O3, ie, Fe3+) may give u Fe2+, i suspect.

So i guess FeSo4 for diy iron is possible and workable, as long as u don't pour in a bit quantity at one go every week, but add small quantity everyday. In tank condition, Fe2+ -> Fe3+ is probably much slower than in pure tap water.

directory dose feso4 is ok, but since it didnot last long, most of the fe2+ you add to the tank are not used by plants, but oxided to toxic fe3+.
chelated fe2+ are used to save fe2+, on the the other hand, it reduce fe3+.

上述討論區所言，經螯合後的鐵肥較FeSo4難吸收。但不螯合的鐵肥又會太多三價鐵產生。那種方式較好呢?

I don't think Fe3+ is toxic, it is just not so readily used by plants. Of course i am talking about normal conc, anything too much is toxic.

The form of Iron in "Flourish Iron" is ferrous gluconate which is not chaleted (more easy to be absorbed by plant) and relatively less easy to be oxidized than other ferrous Fe2+ salt but easier than chaleted form.
