NO. sand have too much lime, so the kh & ph will high too, especially when you add more co2.
it is not recommend add mud on the top of sand, sun grass also like lower kh & ph substrate, sand was not suitable for sun grass. I think you better change all the substrate to ADA mud.
Some people also feed guppy under the ADA mud enviornment, but if the species was special and expensive, you better keep it on the old environment la.

I was using coral sand to plant at the beginning and all dead within a month time finally. But after 6 months time, seems all sand has been neutralized and now all plant grows very well! So what i guess is mud or sand will affect water PH value at the very beginning; as water changed repeatly, the PH value affected by the mud/sand will becomes mild.

This is exactly what I did about 2 months ago. But I add the ADA mud gradually. No plants and fish die. PH was 7.4 lower to now 6.4 with suppliment of CO2 (1 bub/3 sec) KH is 2.
Well, but I don't have "sun grass". All i have are those $10/bag plants that I even dont know the name. I only use internal filter.
