Yes, the major adaption of plants is the transformation from land to water. It may take very long time, say 1 month, and the result is not guaranteed. Some may fail. But as you may know, the shapes and growing condition may vary much. A typical example is the leave. The size and shape could be different growing from land to water.
The second kind of adaption is from the shop you buy the plants to the tank at your home. The water condition between them may be different and the plants need to adapt, too. But comparing with the above (from land to water), this kind of adaption is much easier and faster.
